Elsewhere on the Web
If you've found some interesting places out on the World Wide Web and would like to share them with others, you can do that here. You can make them into working links by adding the HTML tags and then cutting and pasting the URL in between the HTML tags as shown below.

You will need to type the HTML tags (shown in blue) and the URL and web page title (shown in orange) into the correct locations (see example below).

<a href= http://theURL.html > thePageTitle </A>

Clicking the "Create Homepage" button below will take all the text you've written and put it into HTML form so that it is ready to be placed on the Web. You can then save the file (see instructions below), customize it, and put it on your web server.

note: You can use your browser's "Back" key to return here once you've created your homepage to change colors, edit your text, or re-read the directions for saving your file.

What Now?
  1. Revise your Homepage with HomeMaker

If you'd like, you can edit your page by changing your information in the sections above. Simply scroll up or jump to the top of the form, make your changes, and press the "Create Homepage" button again. Once you leave this page, you cannot return to edit it!

  2. Save your Homepage

If you're happy with your homepage, follow these steps to save it:

    1. From your Browser Menu, select File, then Save As. A dialog box will appear allowing you to specify a directory, file name, and file type => Web Page (html).

    2. The top choice in the dialog box, lets you save your file to your floppy disk or to the correct directory on your hard drive or network. You can always search your hard drive later if you forget where you put it.

    3. You should see your first and last name in the File Name dialog box. Your file name may need to be in another format depending on how your webmaster has set up your server. For now, use your first initial and last name. If you have selected "Web Page (htm)," the .htm extension will be added automatacally to your file name.

For example, Jane Doe would name her file JDoe.html or jdoe.htm or whatever.

    4. Make sure that the File type is saved as HTML.

    5. Click the Save button.

Once you've saved your page, you can view it by using the browser Main Menu options, File, Open, then Choose file or Browse--depending on your browser--and then navigate to the floppy drive or hard drive directory where you saved your file. Once you've saved your page, you can also edit it with any word processor, text editor, or Web authoring tool.

  3. Get your Homepage on a Web Server

Saving your file on your local computer allows you to see and edit it, but you'll probably also want the rest of the world to see it too. To "publish" your page, you'll need to move it to a web server. In most cases, this means you'll have to get your homepage file to your local webmaster. Because they vary, ask your webmaster for file transfer guidelines and naming conventions.
