You are now ready to practice and expand what you have learned. You know how difficult it is to find "good" information from reliable sources, and how easy it is to wander aimlessly on the internet. In addition, while you are surfing for one topic, you see so many other interesting sites that before long your bookmark list is out of control. Our answer was to create a searchable database of internet sites called "Blue Web'n."
Assignment:
Use the same search query that you used in Phase 3, or choose a more professional topic to search Blue Web'n. You will be able to search Blue Web'n using any or all of the following criteria:.Go to Blue Web'n and select your search terms using the finding aid at the top of the page, or use the Applications Table at the bottom. Compare the ease of searching and the kinds of hits you got using Search Engines in Phase 3 with those found in Blue Web'n. A useful evaluation checklist based on authority, affiliation, currency, purpose, and audience can be found at Evaluating Internet Resources
- Audience (K-6, 7-12, College, Teachers, Librarians, Counselors, Parents)
- Application Type (Lesson, Activity, Project, Resource, Reference, Tool)
- Content Area (based on California State Frameworks: Art, Business, English, Foreign Language, Health and Physical Education, History and Social Sciences, Mathematics, Science, Technology, Vocational Education, Education, Community Interest)
- Dewey Number
- KeyWord search
