AKA "The Fellows"
As part of the original Pacific Bell (now AT&T) Education First Initiative, which began in 1995, three people who excelled in the use of technology in the classroom or library were selected for a one year fellowship in the Department of Educational Technology at San Diego State University. These original fellows were Jodi Reed - Community College applications; Tom March - K-12 applications, and Linda Woods - Library applications. The fellows' job was to create high quality educational applications for K-12 schools, community colleges, and public libraries.

Knowing that many teachers and librarians were not getting the training and support that was needed for them to use technology on their own; these applications were designed so that they could be quickly and easily implemented into the classroom or library with little or no training. The results are online lessons, webquests, tools, and resources found in the Wired Learning section of the Knowledge Network Explorer.

AT&T Family of Companies
The Knowledge Network Explorer is no longer a grant-funded project at SDSU; but is now completely supported by the AT&T family of companies. Although the program has changed, lots of things remain the same: most importantly, many teachers and librarians are still not getting the training and support needed for them to use technology on their own. That's why we're still here. The mission, to help teachers and librarians integrate technology into learning environments and ultimately to help learners, is still the same. The goal of the Knowledge Network Explorer website is to provide high quality educational applications for K-12 schools, community colleges, and public libraries just like before. On KNE, you will find:

• information about Discounts and Funding programs for schools and libraries
• Education Advocate homepages (Education Advocates provide free staff development to our education customers)
• information on E-rate in California and the California Teleconnect Fund (DAS)
• quarterly newsletters

Friends We Met Along the Way
In addition to the original three full-time fellows, our association with San Diego State University's EdTec department brought us into contact with several edtec graduate students who worked in a variety of support and/or design roles. Here is a partial list: Merry Woodruff, Suzanne Bacon, Anne White, Harley Bergsma, Brian Josephson, Kendra Sheldon, Katie Beedon, and Jeff Burton. Katie went on to become an Education Advocate in California, and then in Texas.
