Introduction | The Questions | Internet Resources

Introduction
You can use the school workshops web site and Penn State Industries' web site to guide you through the planning and decision making process to help you hand-craft a custom turned product in the F.C. Reed Middle School Workshop! Remember if you have specific questions you may email, or ask Mr. Heil.

Questions
  1. Think about the products that you have already turned in the Shop. You may craft a product of equal or no more than one skill level higher. What type of product would you like to craft?

  2. Use the Penn State Industries site to look at the instructions for the type of product that you have selected (using the download library link on the top menu), hardware finish options (which will add to the cost of the product)to veiw pictures of completed products(using the pen kits link on the left), and search for materials for pen blanks (using the pen blanks link on the left). Please remember that materials other than wood will increase the skill level of the desired product by at least one, and will add to the cost of the product.
    A. What type of hardware finish do you desire?
    B. Will you be using a material other than wood? If yes, what material will you be using (please be as specific as possible)?

  3. The wood species link will take you to a list of the woods available, at no additional cost, in the RMS workshop. What type of wood will you be using, or will you be using another material?
