Education First: Black History Activities - This site from Filamentality has Web sites that were created as models to suggest ways to integrate the World Wide Web and videoconferencing into classroom learning.' Your students can view a Hotlist, try a scavenger hunt, or do a webquest.
Teaching With Historic Places - African American History - This site from the National Park Service and National Register of Historic Places offers a different way to teach Black History; use places not just people. The site offers lesson plans that can be adapted for use with upper elementary students.
Biographies
Black History Month - Soul of a Culture - From CNN, this site separates those profiled into groups: cultural pioneers, inventors, authors, and musicians. Click on the interactive gallery link to access. (You will need to disable pop-up blocking software to view.)
Eras in Black History - This site from Britannica Online includes a timeline, audio and video clips, and an alphabetical listing of notable African-Americans. A very thorough and user-friendly site.
The History Channel - Biographical information on many famous black Americans. This link http://www.aetv.com/classroom/bhm_sguides.html has study guides that can be used in conjunction with the information found on the History Channel site.
