It is time to back up all of our words with actions. We are going to research ways that we, as a student body, can get more involved in our local community, as well as world. Please take a few minutes to think about the following question. Then take some time to work through the following websites. Have fun!

Local Projects

HandsOn Bay Area - Volunteer. Learn. Lead. - Explore local and global community issues. HandsOn Bay Area (HOBA) believes that through discussion and issue education, volunteers become more engaged citizens. To this end, HOBA offers a variety of programs to allow volunteers to learn about and discuss community issues. Includes but is not limited to TeamWorks, Social Change Book Clubs, Documentary Film Screenings, etc
Marin Conversation Corps - The Marin Conservation Corps (MCC) is a local non-profit job training, education and development program serving youth and adults ages 11-30. MCC assists young adults in the development of basic job competencies and qualifying work experience for employment in a wide variety of fields. Participants work on crews implementing projects in natural resource conservation, ecological restoration, recycling, service learning projects with children, and public land beautification in Marin County. MCC helps corpsmembers to enhance their academic and vocational abilities and assists them in formulating and progressing toward their long-term employment and educational goals.
Youth Activism - This site aims to prove that MINORS can play a MAJOR ROLE. Everyone--especially teens and tweens--are invited to email or call our toll-free hotline. Also, our national nonprofit clearinghouse provides information and resources to youth workers, mentors, teachers, principals, policy makers, parents and organizations that want to support young advocates .
Youth Service California - Youth Service California is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to helping California youth transform themselves and their communities though service. Young people participating in service to others develop positive moral values and useful skills that lead to active citizenship and productive lives. Youth service is a key to civic, educational, cultural, and spiritual transformation.

National/World Projects

The League - The League - You don’t have to be rich, famous or even an adult to make a difference. Everyone has the time. Everyone has the talent. Especially kids. Our goal is to make doing good as easy, fun, and accessible as school sports. That’s why we call it The LEAGUE. We believe students are natural givers; they are trendsetters, unafraid to create change. The LEAGUE combines service, learning, and friendly “co-opetition” with live, interactive events. From planting trees to collecting food for the hungry, kids are returning millions of dollars worth of value back to the community. We believe once people are inspired and once they are given the opportunity, change happens. The infrastructure for change is in place.
Youth in Philanthropy - The mission of America’s Promise is to mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation's youth by fulfilling five promises to the nation’s youth. This site offers resources for career development, opportunities to give back through community service, and much more.

Interesting Ideas

Do Something - Do Something believes you have the power to make a difference. It is our aim to inspire, support and celebrate a generation of doers: people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action. At DoSomething.org we provide the tools and resources for you to convert your ideas and energy into positive action. Be part of a generation of doers.
Kids Can Make a Difference - An educational program for middle- and high school students, focuses on the root causes of hunger and poverty, the people most affected, solutions, and how students can help. The major goal is to stimulate the students to take some definite follow-up actions as they begin to realize that one person can make a difference.
Kids for Community - Children for Children’s Search Engine for Youth Volunteer Opportunities. The Kids for Community Search Engine is a free website for young people looking to make a difference! It was created to help young people find volunteer opportunities in New York City, and provide educators with service learning tools and ideas.
