Health Topics A to Z - Enormous fount of information on health and diseases. Site is maintained by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Your tax dollars at work!
Librarian's Internet Index - Health - A link to websites you can trust, selected and reviewed by professional librarians.
NCID Disease Information, Selected Prevention and Program Areas - An alphabetical index to major infectious diseases.

Sites with many diseases

All the Virology on the WWW - Information on many viral diseases such as mumps, measles, hepatitus, HIV, influenza and others. Check out the link called the 'Big Picture Book of Viruses' with an extensive collection of virus pictures, listed by family.
Bad Bug Book - I found strep throat and hepatitis here. This online handbook contains information on foodborne pathogenic microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, and parasites) and natural toxins. Provides basic facts including their characteristics, habitat or source, associated foods, infective dose, characteristic disease symptoms, complications, recent and major outbreaks, and any susceptible populations.
Disease and Conditions - Librarian's Index - Directory of Web sites on specific health conditions, syndromes, and diseases. Sites have been evaluated and described by librarians for content and reliability.
Health A to Z - The Search Engine for Health and Medicine - Offers quick access to medical information on the Web. Just type in your search term. Not as useful for some of the more rare conditions.
Health Central Library - A searchable medical encyclopedia. Wait for the full page to load, then enter your search term in the query box labled 'Search the Complete Library' in the center of the page.
Lycos Diseases and Conditions - Scroll down then click on the letter that corresponds to the disease you are researching for access to a directory of links. The database addresses 8,199 diseases, ailments and conditions.
Medline Plus - Searchable database of information on diseases and health topics from the National Library of Medicine.
Other Diseases, Disorders and Related Topics - This is where I finally found Athlete's foot! An extensive collection of Web sites related to diseases, health conditions, and disorders. Scroll down a little and enter your search term in the box labled 'link search.' Site is courtesy of Sweden's Karolinska Institute Library and Information Center.

International Disease Organizations

Centers for Disease Control - Alphabetical index of disease pages, each of which contains epidemiological data (including prevalence) for major infectious diseases.
National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) Home Page - The mission of NCID is to prevent illness, disability, and death caused by infectious diseases in the United States and around the world. To accomplish this goal, NCID staff work in partnership with local and state public health officials, other federal agencies, medical and public health professional associations, infectious disease experts from academic and clinical practice, and international and public service organizations.
Pan American Health Organization - The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is an international public health agency with more than 90 years of experience in working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas.
World Health Organization - Home page of the United Nations orgniazations charged with the mission of 'acting as the directing and co-ordinating authority on international health work.' Contains links to country programs, specific disease-control projects, and the annual world health reports.
World Health Organization Health Topics - Fact sheets on many of the world's communicable/infectious diseases, tropical diseases, and vaccine preventable diseases.

AIDS Sites

AEGIS - The Largest HIV/AIDS Website in the World - Excellent overall source for AIDS and HIV related information. Click on any of the Key Topics in the dark blue frame on the left. There's a lot here -- don't get distracted. You can always go back and browse later.
