Introduction
The fantastical world of mythology strongly shaped the society of classical Greece. With gods, goddesses, heroes, and titans, mythology became this society’s explanation for natural events. This site provides exciting links for both students and teachers in exploring Greek Mythology.

Foundations Stronger than the Parthenon: The Basics

Classical Myth: The Ancient Sources - 'Links to 'ancient texts and images available on the Web concerning the major figures of Greek and Roman mythology.' Most of the illustrations are from ancient sources, but some Renaissance images are included. A list of Attributes in Iconography shows how the gods can be identified. Time Line of Greek History and Literature gives a brief overview of Greek history and dating conventions.' (from lii.org)
Classics Unveiled - 'This site consists of four sections with information culled from books on classical Greece and Rome. 'MythNET' provides information about Greek gods and heroes and includes genealogical tables' (from lii.org). Take a look at the mythology games and creation story.
Encyclopedia Mythica - This online mythology encyclopedia is a great resource that covers many areas of gods, goddesses, legends, and heroes from around the world. A recommendation is to explore the Greek genealogy tables. It visually makes connections between gods easier to understand.

15 Ancient Greek Heroes - This informative site provides great information on 15 ancient Greek heroes. The descriptions are extremely thorough.
Hercules: Greece's Greatest Hero - Hercules is most likely the most recognized hero in Greek mythology. This website dedicated to him explores his life with stories and pictures. The site itself is primarily informational with no interactive activities, but a great resource!
Mythography - A simple few line description of every possible Greek god or goddess.

Mythology is Taking Over My Classroom: Suggestions for Teachers

EDSITEment - Lesson plans in teaching Greek mythology to students in grades three through five. This site truly provides great suggestions and step by step activites to use in the classroom. Look into guided questions, they are fantastic.
MythWeb - A great foundation for the student or teacher interested in Greek gods and heroes. The links to specific gods and heroes provide the user with an entertaining visual (sometimes animated) and sufficient description of the topic being studied. For teachers, it is recommended that they search the teaching tips for exciting lesson plans that can be easiliy intergrated into many cross curricular areas.
Winged Sandels - I strongly recommed using this website in the classroom! 'This site designed for children age 6 to 12 provides animated stories and games about 'the characters of classical [Greek] mythology [who] occupy three realms: the gods live on Olympus, the mortals (and monsters) occupy the Earthly Realm and the dead live in the Underworld.' Also includes craft instructions, searchable and browsable information about characters in the myths, brief essays on ancient Greece, and an interactive Delphic Oracle feature.' (from lii.org)
Writing Your Own Myth - A great way to incorportate literacy into your Greek mythology lessons is to have students write their own myths. This site provides suggestions, books, and guided lessons in myth writing.
