Introduction
History is the study of the past. But, for most of us, we enjoy living in the present and preparing for the future. So why bother studying the past?

Think about this quote:

“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.'
- George Santayana

What does this quote mean?

History helps us understand people and societies. History also helps us understand change and how the society we live in came to be.
(By Peter N. Stearns,Why Study History?)

So let us begin!

You have a choice of two projects ideas. Only choose one.

PROJECT #1: You will complete a poster containing a picture from any time in American history after the Civil War, which includes your own image imposed on the picture, and a description of why you would want to be around for the period. You will include two paragraphs describing your reasons for choosing this period in history (what was interesting about that time period; what would you have done had you lived in that time period?)

PROJECT #2: You will complete a campaign poster for one of this year's presidential candidate. You can choose either the Republican nominee, John McCain, or the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. Your poster will include a relevant campaign issue of your choosing to try and convince people to vote for your candidate. Include your candidate's position on the issues (economics, Iraq and Afghanistan, terrorism, Supreme Court nominees, alternative energy and offshore drilling, Iran). Be sure your poster reflects your candidate's point of view. Write several paragraphs describing the issue you have chosen, the reason that issue is important, the candidate's opinion on the issue, why the opposition candidate is wrong on that issue, and what steps your candidate will take to improve that issue.

The resources below will help you find information and images for both projects. *Remember, only choose one!

You may choose one of these projects to do for your assigment.
