Education

Aetna InteliHealth Drug Resource Center - Aetna InteliHealth, established in 1996, has a relationship with Harvard Medical School and Columbia University College of Dental Medicine to help them meet their goal of bringing readers the most credible health information on the Internet. Aetna InteliHealth is owned by Aetna, but Aetna InteliHealth maintains absolute editorial independence. Aetna InteliHealth goes to great lengths to provide accurate, current and useful health information. To do this, they primarily rely on the expertise of academic partners, Harvard Medical School and Columbia University College of Dental Medicine. Before material is posted on their site, medical professionals who serve on the editorial board of the institution review the material for medical accuracy. The site also contains material created by Harvard Medical School, Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, news services (such as The Associated Press), government agencies (such as the National Institutes of Health), non-profit organizations (such as the Arthritis Foundation) and other content partners (such as the Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary).
Drugs.Com - Drug information online - According to their website, 'Drugs.com is the most popular, comprehensive and up-to-date source of drug information online. Providing free, accurate and independent advice on more than 24,000 prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines and natural products'. The site contains an A-Z drug list; pill identifier; side effects; interaction checker and much more.
Mendocino College Human Service Programs - This site provides information on Mendocino College courses, programs and degrees in Human Services. Students will find information related to their specific classes.
NIAAA Alcohol and Other Drug(AOD)-Related Databases - Following is a list of databases that may be useful to alcohol researchers. Many of these databases may be searched free of charge and are arranged by broad categories. A list of fee-based databases is also included.
Project Cork PowerPoint Presentations - This five unit, slide teaching packet was designed for use by health practitioners, teachers, and neuroscientists, to make presentations to diverse groups ranging from upper level high school science classes, to middle school students, to the general public . To assist the presenter, there is a detailed outline, as well as instructions for creating slides, if these are preferred over a powerpoint format. For the units with more sophisticated information, there is also further background material for the presenter.
SAMHSA Prevention Education Tools - CSAP designs and implements public education programs that range from raising the awareness about the harms of underage drinking to helping families live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Visit the following Web sites to learn more about these programs.
The International Journal of Drug Testing - The Journal is a multidisciplinary, refereed Journal devoted to the publication of scientific research, technical applications, policy, and other issues pertinent to the use of various biological specimens for evaluating exposure to psychoactive drugs. The Journal is managed by an editor and associate editor and supervised by an editorial board. The editorial policies, academic quality, and overview of the Journal's practices will be supervised by the editorial board. The board is composed of distinguished scholars from the international community who have expertise in various aspects of drug analysis. The expertise of the editorial include chemistry, toxicology, medical practice, epidemiological research, drug treatment, criminal justice practice, and allied areas.
The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University - CASA is the only nation-wide organization that brings together under one roof all the professional disciplines needed to study and combat abuse of all substances – alcohol, nicotine as well as illegal, prescription and performance enhancing drugs – in all sectors of society. Founded in 1992 by Former U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare Joseph A. Califano, Jr., the nonprofit organization aims to inform Americans of the economic and social costs of substance abuse and its impact on their lives, as well as, remove the stigma of substance abuse and replace shame and despair with hope. CASA has assembled an interdisciplinary staff of more than 60 professionals with post-graduate and doctorate degrees, experience and expertise in various fields including substance abuse and addiction, communications, criminology, education, epidemiology, government, law, journalism, psychology, public administration, health and policy, social work, sociology and statistics.

Certification

Breining Institute - Breining Institute provides various educational, certification and counseling programs which are approved or recognized by a number of agencies. The RAS Credential and Breining Institute are accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), and are approved by the State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs
California Association of Addiction Recovery Resources - CAARR’s goal is to educate and provide statewide resources for recovering and suffering alcoholics and addicts living in California. CAARR provides programs and offers support for the development of organizations benefiting alcoholics, addicts, their families and the community at large. CAARR is a membership based organization dedicatged to accomjplishing its goals by facilitating communication, cooperation and collaboration among our community-based recovery programs.
California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors - The California Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (CAADAC) is the largest AODA counseling certification (CCBADC) organization in California. Since its origination in 1979, it has conferred certification upon thousands of counselors who have successfully treated clients struggling with the disease of addiction. CAADAC counselors are recognized for their professional training and education in the field of alcoholism and drug abuse and are considered experts in treatment and treatment management.
Forensic Addictions Corrections Treatment (FACT) - Our goal is: To promote and improve professionalism in the field of criminal justice addictions counseling. Three objectives that will help to achieve this goal are: 1. Certify existing professionals in the criminal justice field 2. Encourage new professionals to become certified 3. Require and encourage continuing education in an effort to continuously improve the quality of the workforce FACT certification program is accredited by The National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
Indian Alcoholism Commission of California, Inc. - The Indian Alcoholism Commission Certification Board offers certification to qualified alcoholism/drug abuse counselors. The Board was created in response to the increasing accountability required by the federal government, The State of California and the demand for qualified counselors who serve Indian populations. The Indian Alcoholism Commission of California, Inc. (IACC) offers certification of qualified substance abuse counselors, regardless of race, color, age, handicap, or sexual orientation. Certification attests to the professional qualifications and competence of the counselor.
National Board of Certified Counselors - The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC), an independent not-for-profit credentialing body for counselors, was incorporated in 1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system, to identify those counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained certification, and to maintain a register of those counselors.
The Association of Christian Alcohol & Drug Counselors Institute - The Association of Christian Alcohol & Drug Counselors was established as a 501C3 non-profit corporation in 2002 with the purpose of training and certifying Drug, Alcohol & Addictions Counselors in accordance with biblical Christian principles. In 2003, ACADC became authorized by the California Department of Licensed Vocational Nurses and Psychiatric Technicians to provide continuing education for all California LVN's and Psych Techs. In 2004, ACADC was informed by the Department of Alcohol & Drug Programs that it would be one of 10 certification organizations approved by the state to grant Drug & Alcohol Counselor Certifications. In April 2005 ACADC became a member of the Apostolic Council for Educational Accountability. On December 29, 2006, the Bureau of Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education qualified ACADC pursuant to California Education Code (CEC) Section 94739 (b) (6) as a verified religious exempt institution
The California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators - The mission of CAADE is to promote and support quality [higher] education in alcohol and drug studies. The mission is accomplished through the development and application of accreditation standards for alcohol and drug [higher] education; certification of alcohol and drug treatment counselors; provision for continuing education and professional development; and participation in forums for examination, discussion, and debate on subjects related to alcohol and drug studies.
The California Association of Drinking Driver Treatment Programs - CADDTP is a pro-active organization which seeks to promote understanding of, improve, and sometimes preserve, the role of the state-licensed driving-under-the-influence (education and counseling) programs in California's approach to alcohol and other drug impaired driving. CADDTP also seeks to evaluate and enhance the services offered by its members and others in providing DUI programs throughout the state. CADDTP is one of the ten organizations currently named in the California Administrative Code, Title 9, Section 13035, with authorization to certify individuals as alcohol or other drug counselors.
The California Certification Board of Chemical Dependency Counselors (CCBCDC) - The California Certification Board of Chemical Dependency Counselors (CCBCDC) is an independent non-profit organization recognized as a certifying body by the State of California Alcohol and Drug Programs Administration (ADP). The mission of our organization is to become the standard of excellence by which California recognizes chemical dependency counselors. The CCBCDC is Accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) - NBCC is the nation's premiere professional certification board devoted to credentialing counselors who meet standards for the general and specialty practices of professional counseling.

American Society on Aging - The American Society on Aging, under contract to the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs, offers free training and technical assistance on abuse and misuse of Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) for providers in nonprofit and governmental agencies in California to help them better serve their older clients. International Harm Reduction Association - IHRA is the leading organisation in promoting evidence based harm reduction policies and practices on a global basis for all psychoactive substances (including illicit drugs, tobacco and alcohol).

Government Organizations

California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs - ADP's Mission Statement To lead efforts to reduce alcoholism, drug addiction and problem gambling in California by developing, administering and supporting prevention, treatment and recovery programs. The Resource Center at the California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs maintains a comprehensive collection of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention and treatment information. This information is provided to all California residents at no cost through a Clearinghouse, a full-service Library, Internet communication links, and a telephone information and referral system. These services can be accessed by letter, fax, Internet, e-mail, telephone, or in person
Mendocino County Division of Alcohol and Other Drug Programs - The Division of Alcohol and Other Drug Programs holds the mission to promote healthy behaviors in Mendocino County by preventing, reducing and treating alcohol and other drug addiction, abuse and related conditions.
National Institute on Drug Abuse - NIDA's mission is to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. This charge has two critical components. The first is the strategic support and conduct of research across a broad range of disciplines. The second is ensuring the rapid and effective dissemination and use of the results of that research to significantly improve prevention, treatment and policy as it relates to drug abuse and addiction. Office of National Drug Control Policy - The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), a component of the Executive Office of the President, was established by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. The principal purpose of ONDCP is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation's drug control program. The goals of the program are to reduce illicit drug use, manufacturing, and trafficking, drug-related crime and violence, and drug-related health consequences. To achieve these goals, the Director of ONDCP is charged with producing the National Drug Control Strategy. The Strategy directs the Nation's anti-drug efforts and establishes a program, a budget, and guidelines for cooperation among Federal, State, and local entities.
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) - NIAAA provides leadership in the national effort to reduce alcohol-related problems by: Conducting and supporting research in a wide range of scientific areas including genetics, neuroscience, epidemiology, health risks and benefits of alcohol consumption, prevention, and treatment Coordinating and collaborating with other research institutes and Federal Programs on alcohol-related issues Collaborating with international, national, state, and local institutions, organizations, agencies, and programs engaged in alcohol-related work Translating and disseminating research findings to health care providers, researchers, policymakers, and the public
US Drug Enforcement Administration - The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets. National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information - The SAMHSA Health Information Network (SHIN) includes the National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information (NCADI) and the National Mental Health Information Center (NMHIC) . SHIN connects the behavioral health workforce and the general public to the latest information on the prevention and treatment of mental and substance use disorders. NCADI is the Nation's one-stop resource for information about substance abuse prevention and addiction treatment.

SAMHSA Office of Applied Studies - The OAS provides the latest national data on 1) alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug abuse; 2) drug-related emergency department episodes and medical examiner cases; and 3) the nation's drug abuse treatment network
