Short Vowels

Chicken Stacker - Students discriminate between the different short vowel sounds in the game Chicken Stacker. (Great introduction to the short vowel sounds)
Get Your Mouth Moving - video - Students learn the short /a/ sound watching this music video, “Get Your Mouth Moving.”
Short Vowel activity - Students will identify short vowel words. There is sound to name the pictures.
Starfall Site - Apply what you know about short vowel sounds with with online activities 1 -5 at the Starfall site.

Long Vowels

Long Vowel Activity - Students will choose a long vowel they would like to practice.
Long Vowel Activity For a, i, and o - Students identify long vowel sounds /a/, /i/, and /o/ in words.
Long Vowel Activity For e and u - Students identify long vowel sounds
Sometimes 'Y' - Watch a video clip about when 'y' is a vowel
Starfall - Students will learn about long vowels in activites 6-10

Mixing Short and Long Vowels

Name the picture - Using what you know about long and short vowel sounds, you will name the pictures. There is sound to name the pictures.
Vowel Boot Camp - Watch a video, “Vowel Boot Camp”, on the short and long /a/ sounds.

Extension Activities

ABC Order - Practice putting words in ABC order. The game has different levels.
Bossy R - Identify r-controlled words. There is sound to name the pictures.
Double O , OO - Watch a video clip about the diphthong long /oo/, 'Double o, oo”
Vowel Digraphs - Match pictures with the long vowel digraph sounds. There is sound to name the pictures.
