Introduction
Do you remember reading picture books when you were in elementary school? Do remember the lovely pictures and how the words the author chose within the story enhanced the pictures? Do you remember learning all the new things you learned from having someone read to you or as you read to yourself? Now imagine YOU are the author of a children's book. Your book will be about plants. Think about your audience - young children. Create a book that they willnot only enjoy looking at but can learn from and maybe even foster a dsire to learn more about the topic.

Your story must fit a structure. As you write and illustrate your book about plants, think like an author/illustrator.

Keep in mind:

-Your book will teach children about plants, flowers, and pollination.

-Create a plot, a story of events that will hold the reader's attention.

-You must have a main character. What does your main character experience. Are there obstacles along the way? Is there a moment when it may feel as though all is lost? How does the character work it out? What is the resolution?

-Your story should describe the setting. Describe the time of year, location, and the smells and sounds of the area.

-Add literary touches. Think back to your English class. If possible, include metaphors, similes, alliteration, and onomatopoeia.

-Review your story. Be sure spelling, grammar, and punctuation is correct.

-Most importantly, your story will teach important scientific information about plants. Be sure all your facts are correct.

All authors must research their topic for authenticity. You may use your class notes, textbooks, books from the library and the links below to gather information.

Okay authors...start your research, think of a story line and create an interesting, fact filled, fun picture book!
