Introduction
While we have come to honor all of our past presidents on President's Day, officially, the day was designated by the federal government to celebrate the birthday of the Father of Our Country, George Washington. Below you will find sites on Washington, Lincoln, the holiday itself, and sites to find information on all of our presidents.

Washington Sites

Biography of George Washington - From the official White House site.
George Washington - A timeline, quiz, and information about George Washington from Enchanted Learning.
George Washington - A National Treasure - From the Smithsonian Institution, using a famous portrait of Washington as the foundation, this site has biographical and historical information about Washington, the portrait, and his presidency. Students can study the portrait in depth by clicking on Portrait for Kids and taking the interactive tour.
George Washington's Birthday - From the United States Embassy site, biographical information, White House information, and the history of the holiday.
George Washington's Mount Vernon - This is the official site of George Washington's home at Mount Vernon. By clicking on Mansion Tour and following the links, you can take a virtual tour of the rooms.

Lincoln Sites

Abraham Lincoln - This site presents Lincoln's life in timeline format. It includes photos (enlarge by clicking on the photo)and the text of speeches and letters written by Lincoln.
Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum - This is the official site of the library and museum currently under construction in Illinois. There is a web cam so that you can view the progress of the construction. The site also provides information about Lincoln, his life and presidency as well as a Kids Page for students.
Abraham Lincoln's Birthday - Information from the United States Embassy site includes the Gettysburg Address and the Walt Whitman poem 'Captain! my Captain!' along with information on the origin of the holiday.

Lincoln Home National Historic Site - This site has a photo and information about Lincoln's home in Springfield, Illinois.

Information on all Presidents

Hall of Presidents - This site from the Smithsonian Institution's National Portrait Gallery had portraits that were painted of individual presidents along with some biographical information.
POTUS (Presidents of the United States) - This site from the Interent Public Library has very detailed information about each of nation's presidents. You will find biographical as well as historical information. This is a valuable resource.
The American Experience - The Presidents - From the PBS series, this site focuses on the Roosevelts, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Reagan. This site is better suited for upper elementary students and is a good resource for teachers.
