Introduction
This web site hotlist was designed for tutors, parents, students, and teachers who want to utilize technology to improve instruction or learning. Catagories are divided into reading, writing, math, ESL, GED, and a special section on dyslexia and other learning differences. Some sites could easily fit in more than one category. Please email me if you have a site that you think should be included.

The Internet Resources

Club Z one on One Tutoring - Provides in home tutoring services. This tutoring club says that it is a supplemental service provider with No Child Left Behind.
Comprehensive Practice Testing Site - This site offers practice in just about any test a person my be required to take for college entrance and professional fields.
Magic Treehouse Teacher Guides - Teacher guides and activity sheets to go with Magic treehouse books.
Nurse's Aide Test - Help for becoming a nurse's aide.
Rubric Maker - This is a generic rubric maker website to use for evaluations.
Smart Tutor - Instruction for reading and math that is assessment driven.
Super Teacher Worksheets - Free worksheets in all subject areas that are terrific if someone has a student who needs extra practice.
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing - Literature Guide activities.
Verizon Tutor Training - Website has self-paced training on own time on internet.

Reading

Between the Lions for Kids, Parents, and Teachers - Included are games, videos, stories for kids that are engaging literacy activities that reinforce important reading, writing, and spelling concepts. For parents and teachers there are additional supports to help them work with their child/children that relate to the kid's sites but also activities and resources.
Can Do Reading Practice Site - This has practice for parents and their children for reading readiness, phonics, vocabulary, structure analysis of words, dictionary skills, and comprehension.
Children's Literature Celebrating Cultural Diversity - Can choose books by clicking on ethnic group and get a book list.
Comprehensive Reading Site - Stories, comprehension, vocabulary, phonics, games. There are links for adults to build preemployment skills and much more.
Introduction to Consosnant Blends - Gives definition of a blend and lists of most common blends. There are also practice activities for using blends.
Phonics, Syllables, and Accent Rules - This provides help with phonetic rules for decoding.
ProLiteracy America - This is a resource page for links to other literacy and education resources.
Reading Rainbow and Dragonfly TV - Sells teacher's guides to support these reading and science tv teaching programs.
Recommended Youth Reading for St. Charles Public Library - Recommended reading for school age young people in all catagories.
Sites for Language Arts, Math, and Science. - These are sites for language arts, math, and science. Sites are good for students, parents, and tutors to get ideas to help their students.
Vocabulary University - Help for building vocabulary for each subject area, the GED, the SAT, and more.
Wrightslaw Parent Information Site for Learning Differences - This site gives information on Reading/Learning Difficulties,ADD, ADHD, Autism, and any issues that affect children who struggle for one reason or another.

Writing

Writing Process - Site goes into detail about writing process. A section called 'six problem areas' good for editing.

Interactive web site for fith grade curriculum - ThatQuiz is a math testing web site developed by Andrew Lyczak, a graduate student at the University of New Hampshire. The site offers free testing, grading and record keeping for teachers, with practice tests for students. This is a completely free, non-profit educational site.

Bright Solutions for Dyslexia - This site is the single best site I've found for dyslexia for research based information by dyslexia expert Susan Barton. Included is a definition, specific effective methodology to help individuals who may be dyslexic such as testing, tutoring, materials, what works, and what doesn't.
