Introduction
'These are the times that try men's souls.' So wrote Thomas Paine.

Typically, people believe the American Revolution was an organized rebellion of a united people against an oppressive tyrannical government and that the colonists simply rose up and gained their independence.

In actuality, the truth was far from that.

Whether you became a loyalist, an American colonist who remained loyal to the King of England or a Patriot, who eventually supported the revolution, the events and actions leading to the American Revolution were difficult for all.

Let's view this period of American history from both the colonists' point of view and the British point of view.

First, you will use the information obtained from these resources to form a chronological list of events that caused the Revolutionary War. Next, you will develop a detailed explanation of why the colonists wanted to fight for their freedom. Then, you will develop a detailed explanation of why the loyalists were against going to war with the British. Finally, you will develop your argument to convince each side to go to war to not to go to war.

Remember, your task is to examine both sides to then build your argument for our debate.
