Kids! Visit and find out how rocks have their own recycling service. Discover the three rock classes, understand what process the rocks go through to be classified and catagorized as well as how to identify them. Jump into the Rock Cycle and see what happens each step of the way. Teachers, see the following hot links for California Grade Four Earth Sciences part A. These three links will engage your learners to explore and learn how the Rock Cycle occurs and how each part of the Rock Cycle changes the state of the rock to another form. Additionally, your students will learn how to identify common rocks in their own neighborhood.

Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic Rocks

Rock and the Rock Cycle - Students learn three types of rocks: Sedimentary Rocks, Igneous Rocks, and Metamorphic Rocks. Through a simple interactive diagram students can see how rocks undergo change. They may click on any group of rocks, shown in the Rock Cycle diagram to gain more details about this part of the process. Each Rock class links to a short page of a description of the rock, the process it underwent and examples of what they look like in nature. Additionally, students may click beginner, intermediate, or advanced reading levels depending on their needs...Great for English Language Learners to GATE learners!

The Rock Cycle in Action

Interactive Rock Cycle Animation - Embedded animations in a cross-section of earth illustrate the cyclical road a rock takes in its lifetime. This beautifully displayed diagram beacons pupils to follow the journey of a rock by allowing each portion of the path to be clicked on for further videos and short animations of its' process. Review, Summarize and Test Your Knowledge

Revision Bite: Rocks and the Rock Cycle - This five sheet site quickly summarizes each rock group, the rock cycle, and additional terms to know such as weathering, erosion, magma, and types of igneous rocks. When student has finished exploring each rock class, they may take a fun six question test on the last page (click on the bottom of sheet 5 'Take Test Bite'). Students can see how well they did on the test and get correct answers to missed questions. They can also be given referrals back to previous sheets to revisit.
