Introduction
Let's sit around the campfire and tell scary stories on Halloween!

Well, we may not have a campfire, but it should be fun anyway. We will be reading from some urban legends.

Urban legends are stories that are told as if they are true. There are details in the story that give them authenticity. To begin your research, find out about the hottest urban legends being circulated on the Internet.

How do create your Urban Legends Project? Use the library or the internet to select an urban legend. Only when you have defintely decided on which story to update and illustrate, may you print the story. Create a more 'inventive' version of the story.

Some ideas include (choose one):

-Write a play based on the urban legend.
- Write a modern version with your neighborhood as the setting and people in your grade as the main characters. Make sure it is okay with your classmates to include them in your updated version.
-Write a narrative poem about the legend.
-Write a letter or journal entry with the legend as the main topic.
-Check with your English teacher if you have a creative idea of your own.

Your project must include the following:
-Your name and class period.
-The title of the legend.
-Your creative version of the urban legend. This should be at least one page of text.
-At least three illustrations (clip art, drawings) depicting parts of the legend. It can be a collage.
-The URL (web address) for anyone who wants to read the original.

Too scary for you? Some Urban Legends are very scary, so if you would like to rewrite and illustrate the legend of 'The Girl in the Lavendar Dress' instead, you may.
