Introduction
Start on the West Coast and travel cross-country to New York visiting several U.S. landmarks along the way. These sites with photographs and virtual tours will make your students feel like they've actually been there.

Redwood National Forest & Golden Gate Bridge

Golden Gate Bridge - Bridgewalk - This might be my favorite of all of the sites. You and your students can take a walk on the Golden Gate Bridge and look out in different directions at the surrounding scenery. When you get the opportunity to 'go to the top', take it; but be careful when you choose to look down!
Golden Gate National Recreation Area - Official National Park Service site. Clicking on the 'In Depth' link will give you much more information about the bridge and surrounding park area.
Redwood National and State Parks - Yet another site from the National Park Service; click on 'In Depth' for more photos and information about the forest.
Virtual Trail - This Park Service Site from the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks in California offers a virtual walk along a trail to view the unbelievably tall trees.

The Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon National Park - This is the official site of the National Park Service. On the left hand side of this page, click on the 'Photos' link to see more images of the park.
Grand Canyon at National Geographic.com - This site from National Geographic has an interactive map, a short video of the Skywalk, and some great photos of the canyon.

The Gateway Arch & Mississippi River

Enchanted Learning - A worksheet with a map and questions about the Mississippi River states.
Jefferson National Expansion Memorial - Official National Park Service site. The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial includes the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. As usual, you can get much more information by clicking on the 'In Depth' link. Click on the photo of the Arch, then click on Architecture. On this page you can see a slidesow of the arch being built.
Mississippi National River & Recreation Area - Another official site by the National Park Service. Click on 'In Depth' for more information.
The Gateway Arch Riverfront - Click on the 'Just for Fun' link and take an online quiz, play a game, and find out some fun facts about the Arch.

The Alamo & The Everglades

Alamo History - This site from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library has pictures and some historical information about the Alamo.
Alamo Plaza - The Alamo - It is a little tricky, but if you can manipulate it you can take a 360 degree tour of Alamo Plaza.
Everglades National Park - Official site from the National Park Service. Click on the 'In Depth' link for more detailed information.
Everglades eFieldtrip - Take your students on a virtual field trip through Florid's Everglades. You'll have to register first, but the registration and the trip are absolutely free!

Statue of Liberty

Statue of Liberty National Monument - Official site of the National Park Service. Click on 'In Depth' for more.
Statue of Liberty Photo Tour - Take this virual tour and do what no else has been able to since September 11 - go inside and walk to the top!
