Introduction
The purpose of this activity is to give you a sampling of some of the aspects of Prescription Drug Abuse. The websites were chosen to give you an idea of the information available to you on the internet.

The questions will direct you to the main areas I want you to explore. Please feel free to expand your exploration as well.


Sites to Explore

Teen's Health Questions:

  1. What are 3 reasons teens abuse prescription drugs?
  2. Describe 3 classes of abused drugs. Include the name, 2 examples of each, and how they work in your answer.
  3. a) Describe 4 dangers of abusing these medications. b) What are 3 signs of addiction? c) Summarize 4 ways to protect yourself if you are prescribed medications.

Prescription Drug Abuse: A Serious Problem Questions:
  1. State the 3 given statistics on teen prescription drug abuse.
  2. View the ' Who's More Dead ' and ' Babies/Rx ' awareness ads. Describe what you think are the messages meant to be conveyed by the ads.
  3. Describe what groups are most likely to abuse which drugs and explain why you think this is the case.

Painfully Obvious Questions:
  1. What exactly are prescription drugs and why are regulated by the government?
  2. Explore the information on stimulants, depressants, and analgesics. Give 4 facts about each that you were not previously aware of.
  3. Explore the consequences of drug abuse. List 8 different consequences that can arise from prescription drug abuse.

Conclusion

While completing this sampler, I hope you considered the given information in regards to issues that concern you today as a teenager. Hopefully you have taken some useful information away that will allow you to make informed decisions and to help others do so as well.
