Did Texas win the Battle of the Alamo? Where were the first shots of the Texas Revolution fired? Who were some important people in the events of the Texas Revolution? These are just a few of many important questions!
You have been chosen for a special task. You must find the truth about the Texas Revolution and report it! There are some people who do not know what happened during the Texas Revolution and there need to be others who can help them find the truth. Your class has been selected to do what any good reporter would do: research information about this very special topic and dig deep to find the truth.
Your team has been assigned a specific role! There are five reporting teams that will research and report over important events from the Texas Revolution. You will use the links provided as well as other resources (books and class discussion) to become experts on your assigned topic. You and your team will work together to create a Group PowerPoint presentation that presents your team's topic. By completing this WebQuest, you should achieve the following goals: 1) develop an interest in the study of Texas Revolution; 2) use the power of the Internet for advanced exploration; 3) learn information about key aspects of Texas Revolution; 4) understand that there are several ways to discover information; 5) create and support an opinion based on your roles; and 6) work with teammates to report the Texas Revolution.
You will be working together as a group to explore web sites that your teacher has selected to help you uncover the truth. You should start with the pages that are labeled 'Background Information' before researching your specific event. Each group has their own Task to complete and a separate set of web sites to use.
Phase 1 - Background Information
These sites are important because they will provide basic information about the topic as a whole. Everyone should explore these sites before starting researching your battle.
Phase 2 - Roles
These roles were chosen because they each define the the important events of the Texas Revolution. Each group has been assigned particular events with links and instructions below. Here are the general instructions for all of you. Please see your specific instructions and questions below.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Each group will work on exploring the websites provided.
2. Read through the websites designated for your group. You can print out pages and underline the parts that you feel are important or cut and paste from the webpage into a word processor.
3. Remember to include the URL of the page you take information from so you can return to it and use it as a citation.
4. Record your findings in your spiral. Good reporters always document their findings!
5. Decide on how you will include the information you discovered in a PowerPoint presentation so you can report the truth!Battle of Gonzales:
Explore the Battle of Gonzales! You may have heard of the Battle of the Alamo, but there were many other important battles. Learn more about the battle of Gonzales, and discover why this battle has made the history books. Be sure to record your findings by taking notes and answering questions below. This will help you be sure that you are reporting accurate information. Think about how you will want to present this information on a PowerPoint!

Your group will explore two battles! The Battle of Goliad and the Siege of Bexar (also known as the Battle of San Antonio). Learn more about these two battles so that you can report good, accurate information. Record your findings by taking notes and answering the questions below. Texas declares its independence?! People want to know when this happened! Also, what is the Treaty of Velasco? You have the fun, yet challenging task of examining two very important documents that involved Texas Independence! These are some of the most important details of the entire revolution. Do your best to report the truth so we all have accurate information! Think about how you will want to present this information on a PowerPoint.
1. Why was it important for the Texans to finish their Declaration of Independence soon? What might have happened if they did not finish it as soon?
2. What other events were taking place during the writing of the Declaration of Independence? When was it written?
3. Who was involved in the writing of the Texas Declaration of Independence?

It has been the most talked about battle that happened during the Texas Revolution, and it is very important that you report accurate information. Phase 3 - Reaching Consensus
You have all learned about different parts of Texas Revolution. Now groups will continue their research by exploring books and other texts. Continue to gather your information and to take notes on it. You will putting all of your information together on a PowerPoint and will present your battle to the class at the end of our unit on the Texas Revolution.
Great work! Remember though, reporters do not only get information from one source. Good reporters explore as many options as possible before they take on the challenging task of reporting the truth. You will be provided with some books that will help you in your task to find and report what happened during the Texas Revolution. You will also have an opportunity to hear your teacher talk about what he knows about the Texas Revolution. Be sure to listen closely. Maybe you can help add information that he forgot! As you continue to learn more about the Texas Revolution think hard about how you will put all your information together on a PowerPoint so that you can report your findings to your class. When everybody is finished reporting, we should be experts on the Texas Revolution and will be great reporters!
